Adult Host Program
Friends make a new country feel like home. The Host Program matches established Canadians with new immigrants to lend support with language and cultural barriers and ease their way into Canadian life.
How the program works?
Established Canadians are matched with newcomer families or individuals based on their similarities, interests and needs. They spend time together on a regular basis, usually between 2 to 4 hours a week, for up to 6 months. They can plan their own time together and also engage in group activities. Workshops, educational sessions, family nights and women’s afternoon tea are planned by the coordinator. The program coordinator remains in contact with the pairs on a regular basis to offer support and ensure successful program delivery.
Newcomer Immigrants!
Would you like to meet a Canadian friend to learn about the Canadian way of life? Volunteer Canadian Hosts would be happy to introduce you to Canadian culture and the community.
To be eligible for the program you must be a permanent resident, naturalized Canadian citizen or an individual who is to become a permanent resident.
Established Canadian Volunteers
The Host Program is an opportunity to make new friends, learn about other cultures and help make newcomers to our community feel more connected. There is no cost involved, just your time and your friendship. Volunteers are selected through an application and interview process along with reference checks and a criminal record check. They are given training and support on topics such as volunteer roles and responsibilities, cultural awareness and understanding the needs of newcomers, diversity, and multiculturalism.
