Labour Market Focused ELSA 5
Do you want to improve your English and get a job soon?
This program is designed for you! It includes three parts:
1. English classes with a focus on EMPLOYMENT situations.
2. Computer classes
3. Practicum (work experience)
ENGLISH CLASSES:
You will learn English skills for working in Canada.
Topics may include:
Canadian Workplace Culture
Workplace Communication
Telephone Skills
Job Search Skills
The class will prepare you to work in Canada.
COMPUTER TRAINING:
You will learn computer skills that you will need to work in Canada and when
looking for a job. These include computer programs such as: MS Word
and Excel, using the Internet, and finding job-related websites.
PRACTICUM
This is work experience in a local workplace. You will practice your
English and some job skills, while learning about working life in Canada.
You and your instructor will discuss what kind of job site you can work at,
and when. Your school will try to find a practicum placement for you
that supports your career goals. You will not be paid, but you will
get valuable Canadian work experience and meet other working Canadians.
TO BE ELIGIBLE:
YOU MUST plan to start working or looking for work after finishing
the ELSA Labour Market Focused program
YOU MUST be a current or recent ELSA level 4/5 graduate; OR be a new client
assessed at the ELSA level 5.
(please see the CLBPT section for assessment details)
YOU MUST be able to attend classes regularly and your practicum session,
from the start date to the end date.
